I LIKE THIS!
Been awhile since I posted anything drag related, I like the look of this set up. Can't remember where I found this so can't tell you anything about it, just enjoy!

BELLA STARTING UP
The legend that is Chris Ireland Starting the Indian powered Bella at the Pendine Sands meet last month. Not a Triumph unit but certainly a triumph of engineering and shed building as it should be I will let the sound speak for itself!!
As if it's not enough racing Bella he also edited The Brit Chopper Magazine. which sadly seems to be on a publishing sabbatical but the web site is still there

Another one out of the Baron's Speed Shop
A Triumph of modern technology!
Was having a sort out the other day and found this bit of silliness in the cupboard. It was a present from Huggy who knows I like Triumph related stuff. This definitely comes under the George Carlin definition of'Stuff'. If you don't know it check the link.
strangely satisfying playing with it! and it is a USB hub should I ever need one

Bedding/Lapping Piston Rings.
Here's the original method as it was described to me.No doubt there are alternatives.I've used this and it does work well, and gives better results than any conventional run-in procedure.I currently use a slightly different procedure.
After you hone and re-ring,but before you fit the head: Mix BON AMI (original 1886 formula powder cleaner [yellow, not metallic gold container];the more modern "powder cleanser" formula has sweet smelling stuff and plant oils and does not have "1886 formula" on the container ) with thin oil,to make it like toothpase. With the pistons at BDC,cover the bores with this mixture. Rotate the engine 2 or 3 times and add more mixture. Do this until you've done 40 revolutions. At about 30 revolutions you'll see the mixture turn grey. Do not add any more mixture. Rotate the engine 10 more turns, wiping off as much mixture as you can. #Fit the head and start the engine. No slow idling, ride the bike.Alternate between heavy load (for a few seconds),and closed throttle. After about 20 minutes,do an oil change. This is mostly to get out the metal bedded from the rings, not so much for the BON AMI. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thesedays,I lap the rings before I fit the barrel: Mix BON AMI with liquid detergent. *Check the ring gaps before you fit the rings on the piston. It's usually a good idea to have 30% bigger ring gap on the 2nd ring, compared to the top ring gap (say 0.003"-0.004" bigger). It helps the top ring seal, and reduces oil consumption. Fit the rings and piston into the bore with a spare conrod (or a stick with a hole) attached to the piston. Cover the bore above the piston with this mixture. Push the piston up and down the bore using slight rotation on each stroke. Add more mixture every 2-3 up/down cycles. After about 45 up/down cycles, pull the piston out and check ring contact. It should show continuous contact around the circumference, not necessarily across the full width. *Do not remove the rings from the piston. Rinse the piston/rings with water and blow dry. Rinse and dry the barrel. *Coat the barrel with WD40 or ATF.Wipe most of it off (as much as you can). Put one drop of oil on each side of the piston skirts, none on the rings. Assemble and run as previous method. Last edited by Mr.Pete; 06-09-2013 at 07:16 AM. @ Hipsville on a Triumph. Xtra
A couple of other Triumphs spotted at the Hipsville Party Weekend. No background on these,I think I spent too much time drinking and not much on research, well it said it in the name " Party Weekend" so I did!!
Nice rigid Bobber, nothing fancy but all there and as they say "lots of patina"
A proper road warrior,I do believe these guys came from Bristol, Gavin said something about being in a band and liking a Party!! Here are it's companions for the trip.
A Harley and a very tidy Velocette
Yes please,I like this a lot!!

Tim O'Regan came to the Hipsville Party Weekend on his rather nice T140 based ride. He's parked in front of Martin's Model A Ford Roadster made up of original 30's & 40's parts & powered by a '59 V8 283ci Corvette motor and Myia's car in the background (details to follow, hopefully when she is back from the GOW! speed hill climb)
It's a handmade frame, the hardtail is made from Volvo Panhard rods, the front end and caliper are from a VFR800,the wheels 16" Harley, the tank again in Tim's own words a"gloriously unfashionable Mustang"
Tim got the Bike a year ago from a collection in Portugal where it had been unused since being built in the 90's,A bit of fettling,a new Biltwell seat from Sumo at
Vintage Chop.com and Tim has corrected this situation as shown below
Changes in the pipeline include de-slabing the yokes(and there is a whole lot of slab going on it, has to be said!),a vertical oilbag to avoid the chain slap chewing the present one & so that the chainguard can be dispensed with.( I believe I just put the FMW vertical Mooneye on his shopping list!)
All in all a nice long & low bike that according to Tim is " a lot easier to ride than it looks"
(Pics lifted from Martin's FB as was a rubbish reporter and took too few pics! Cheers Martin)

A career in British Engineering
I never met Sue's Dad, John Boughton as he had already passed away when I met Sue, after a long illness with Parkinson's.
One of the things we have inherited after Joan, Sue's Mum, passed away was all his certificates.
We were sorting out getting his apprenticeship certificate framed and it struck me that the collection represented one man's career in British Engineering and given his training with the Birmingham Small Arms Co. Ltd. with whom he served 5 years 9 months of apprenticeship including a couple of months in the motorcycle section, not long I give you but enough to earn his place on this blog!! (apparently it was his brother Fred who was the biker in the family) So I decided that I would post the certs up as a tribute to the man and the industry he represented.

Sadly like many he fell victim to the decline of British Industry and in the late 80's after many years working for British Steel he was made redundant.
Returning to education he gained a degree at Durham and worked as a small business consultant in Washington,Tyne & Wear before being diagnosed with Parkinson's and having to take early retirement

Longsue-Stowaway makes its way to me
My friend Ingrid was Stateside recently and I asked if she could bring back something for me.I decided on getting her to bring me back a very neat looking Oil filter from Moore Sensible Products
as seen on one of Dan Patterson at Angry Monkey Motorcycles recent builds (nice detailing on the bracket as always with Dan's work.)
Ingrid's sister lives in Oshkosh in Wisconsin which was fortuitous as Moore Sensible Products are based in Twin Lakes which is 120 miles away. Next door in US terms and made getting delivery in the small time window available very manageable. Dan Moore the owner was very helpful. All in all a great product well made.
The filter came from B&C Auto Parts Ebay shop, I bought a pack of three as it was a great deal and way cheaper than buying them here
More goodies for the Longsue build box
